Have Your Dentures Fit Properly
Dentures remain a popular choice to restore missing teeth. However, lots of dentures do not fit comfortably or securely, causing problems like pain, slipping, infection, difficulty eating, sore and swollen gums, oral sores, and more. An oral surgeon can prepare your mouth for dentures to ensure you get the most from your prosthesis.
Dr. Livesay, Dr. Carey, and Dr. Naselsker perform pre-prosthetic surgery for patients in the greater Louisville area. We have two offices in Louisville and one in Bardstown for your convenience. Contact Innovative Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Studio to talk to one of our board-certified oral surgeons about how pre-prosthetic surgery can benefit you.
What Is Pre-Prosthetic Surgery?
Pre-prosthetic surgery reshapes the soft tissues and/or bone in the mouth to ensure a dental prosthesis fits exactly as it should. Since every patient is different, your surgeon will review your treatment plan in depth with you during your consultation.
Common procedures that may be performed as a part of pre-prosthetic surgery include:
- Tooth extractions
- Bone smoothing and reshaping
- Ridge augmentation
- Excess gum removal
When you come to Innovative Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Studio for a consultation, your surgeon will go over your goals for treatment with you, as well as take 3D images, perform an oral evaluation, and answer any questions you may have. Your anesthesia options will also be discussed during this appointment.
In general, pre-prosthetic surgery is a minor outpatient procedure. Most patients who undergo pre-prosthetic surgery heal within 6 weeks, but the type of pre-prosthetic surgery you receive will determine your recovery time. Be sure to follow all pre- and post-operative instructions your surgeon has given to you. If you have any questions about your recovery, please call our office.
